Chinese President's Style of Governance and Influence
Under the extraordinary leadership of President Xi Jinping, China has made significant progress in the development of the Chinese nation and society. With President Xi's brilliant vision and passion, China is moving rapidly towards its grand goal of building a fully modern socialist state. President Xi has contributed to the new style of international relations by proposing important ideas such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the creation of a global community with a shared future. The recently published book Xi Jinping: The Governance of China IV contains speeches made by President Xi Jinping on various occasions from 2020 to 2022.
2020 began with one of the toughest challenges of the century. In this difficult time of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Chinese leadership expressed its determination on how to deal with such a huge challenge. With Xi Jinping's vision, China won the war against extreme poverty and achieved the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects on schedule. Now the country is all set to begin its march toward the second goal of the century, which is to make China a modern socialist country.
One of the most impressive aspects of President Xi's leadership is his determination to put the interests of his people first. He once said that people's support is our first political priority. Repeatedly representing public sentiment, President Xi has won the hearts of his nation. Giving the New Year message of 2022, he had said that the problems of the people are my problems and the expectations of the people are my goals. After accomplishing so many things in his two terms, the President is still determined to improve the quality of life of his people. During his speech at the discussion session of the Inner Mongolia delegation at the third session of the 13th National People's Congress on May 22, 2022, he emphasized that the Communist Party of China (CPC)'s sole purpose in government is to serve the needs of people. Xi Jinping, at the opening ceremony of the training program for young officials during its 2021 spring semester at the Central Party School (National Academy of Governance), urged the new generation to emphasize planning, understand overall trends, and deal with major challenges in a good way. President Xi's leadership not only dealt with local challenges but also showed other nations the way to fight.
China's response to covid-19 was acknowledged worldwide. From preventing the spread of the virus to research and development for vaccine and rapid treatment regimens, and to administering a vaccine to such a large population in such a short period of time is certainly commendable. The hallmark of President Xi's leadership during covid-19 was his inspiring leadership in uniting all key segments of society including epidemic control workers, police officers and community workers who worked diligently around the clock. While all other nations were struggling during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Chinese economy remained on a positive trajectory, a testament to President Xi's vision and leadership. On February 23, 2022, President Xi addressed a meeting on controlling covid-19 and strengthening economic and social development, stressing that we must turn crises into opportunities and advance our great potential and momentum. In response to the global pandemic, China has also established a mechanism to prevent people from falling back into poverty. China is helping businesses in tough times to keep the job market stable, promoting online unemployment registration and online applications for unemployment insurance. Farmers are facilitated in finding the right market to sell their agricultural and livestock products.While migrant workers are also getting help from the government to resume their work. As traditional industries struggle to mitigate the negative impact post-Covid-19, China is focusing on smart manufacturing, driverless delivery services, online consumption, healthcare and other emerging industries. To address people's income problems, provincial governors and city mayors are ensuring immediate supply of essential food.
President Xi's speech at the the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on October 29, 2020, highlighted the path of China's modernization, in which he said that the first thing is that the size of the population of China is more than the total population of developed countries. Second, the goal of Chinese development and modernization is shared prosperity for all, which has overcome regional divisions, disparities between urban and rural areas, and disparities in income distribution. Third, Chinese development balances material and cultural and moral development while other developed countries are dominated by material gains. Fourth, China focuses on the harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature, as the country strives to harmonize material and environment-friendly development that has ensured a stable economy to ensure growth.
