CG Zhao Shiren meets with the CM Punjab H.E. Maryam Nawaz Sharif

On April 3, 2024, Consul General Zhao Shiren met with H.E. Ms. Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the new Chief Minister of Punjab. The meeting were also attended by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Political Adviser to Chief Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Chief Secretary Zahid Zaman, IGP Usman Anwar, Home Secretary Noor-Ul-Amin Mengal, Deputy Consul General Cao Ke and others.

Maryam strongly condemned the Dasu terrorist attacks and expressed deep condolences for the 5 Chinese victims. She said that Pakistan regards China as the most reliable friend, brother and partner, and attaches great importance to the safety of Chinese citizens in Pakistan. Several high-level meetings were held to effectively beef up security measures. The Punjab government and she are ready to further strengthen ties with the Consulate General, deepen traditional friendship and promote exchanges and cooperation between Pakistan and China in various fields and the construction of the CPEC.

CG Zhao Shiren congratulated Maryam on her assumption of office, and expressed appreciation for her offering condolences. He asked the Pakistani government to thoroughly investigate the incident, hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to swift justice, and let the terrorists pay their due price. CG Zhao further noted that China will continue to promote the high-quality construction of the CPEC and support Pakistan in fighting terrorism, developing the economy and improving people's livelihood.

The two sides also shared views on strengthening exchanges and cooperation between provinces of China and Punjab and doing positive narrative of China-Pakistan friendship.
