    Our consular Area is the Punjab Province of Pakistan (excluding Rawalpindi). Adjoining India in the east, Punjab is located in the north-eastern part of Pakistan with the capital city of Lahore. With a land of 205,300 square kilometers and a population of over 100 million, it has the highest population density in the country. Most of the inhabitants are Punjabis, 99% of whom are Muslims, mainly Sunnis, while the rest are Christians, Hindus, and Sikhs. Punjab also has Saraiki, Mahajir (Muslims who immigrated from India during the partition of India and Pakistan), Baloch, Pashtun, and Kashmiri ethnic groups.

    Punjab is located in a fertile river valley, with the Potwar plateau to the northwest, the Thar desert to the southeast, and the remaining Himalayas to the north. The four seasons are distinct, with drought and 125 to 500 mm of annual rainfall. From mid-February to April is spring, with warm temperatures; from May to August is summer, with hot weather; from August to October is autumn, with humidity and rain; from October to February is winter, with coolness and less rain. Punjab has a long history of development and dense artificial irrigation canals. It is the “food basket” of the country with 65% of the country's arable land and over 70% of the country's wheat production. Industry is well developed and covers textiles, machinery, electrical appliances, metal processing, etc. Mineral resources are abundant, which include coal, salt, gypsum, dolomite, etc. Punjab’s annual GDP accounts for more than 50% of the country.  

    Lahore is the second largest city in Pakistan with a population of over 10 million and a long history & profound cultural heritage. It was the capital of Mughal Empire in ancient times and enjoys the reputation of being “Soul of Pakistan”. Lahore has many historical sites and the famous “Badshahi Mosque” is one of the largest mosques in the world. With a subtropical continental climate, abundant rainfall, lush trees and fragrant flowers, the city enjoys the reputation of "City of Gardens". It is connected to major cities such as Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Multan and Faisalabad, and is a collecting and distributing center for agricultural products and an industrial and commercial hub of the Punjab. The Consulate General is located in the center of Lahore.

    In addition to Lahore, there are other major cities in Punjab such as Faisalabad and Multan. Being the third largest city in the country with a population of 6.5 million, Faisalabad is located between the Ravi river and Chenab river and 110 kilometers west of Lahore. It’s a main producing area for cotton and wheat, a textile industry centre, a distributing centre for agricultural products, as well as a railway and highway hub in Pakistan. There are agricultural universities, agricultural research institutes, cotton research institutes, etc. Located on the downstream of Chenab River and 310 km Southwest of Lahore, Multan, as an ancient city with a history of 2,500 years, has a population of 3.8 million and a well-developed cotton textile industry. 

    Punjab is home to the headquarters of political parties including PML-N and PML-Q, and the PTI was founded in Lahore. The provincial governor is the highest constitutional power in the province, while the chief minister is the highest chief executive of the provincial government. The incumbent Governor is Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman and the Chief minister is Chaudhry Parvez Elahi. 

    There are more than 3,000 overseas Chinese in Punjab, mainly from Guangdong province, Shandong province, Zhejiang province and other places. They mainly engage in manufacturing, trade and logistics, hotels and restaurants, small commodity processing and other industries.

    There are several projects of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in Punjab. The first phase of corridor construction focuses on energy and transportation infrastructure, of which Sahiwal Coal Fired Power Plant, Quaid-E-Azam Solar Park (Bahawalpur), Matiari to Lahore Transmission Line Project, Orange Line Metro Train and Peshawar-Karachi Motorway (Multan-Sukkur Section) have been put into operation. The second phase focuses on agricultural and industrial cooperation, with the Allama Iqbal Industrial Estate in Faisalabad as the priority project.

    Punjab has maintained good exchanges and cooperation with China. So far, Punjab has knotted friendship province ties with Jiangsu Province, Shandong Province and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Lahore has sister city ties with Xi'an and Chengdu. Lahore also boasts international friendly exchange relations with Guangzhou, China.
